Cuzco: Hospital y Comprar

Rachel and I got up at 9 to meet Kris at 10 and go visit Amy and Priscilla in the Hospital.  By the time we actually got there it was about noon and we were happy to see that both were doing well and somehow in good spirits despite their respective 4 and 3 day stays.  While we were there Monica and her mom came by and we also received the good news that they could finally leave the hospital!

After dropping Amy off at her house the 3 of us went to the San Pedro Market to explore the varied fruits of Peru.  With an agreed upon goal to try as many new fruits as possible we bought 2 different oranges, a reddish plantain, cherimoya, mango, kiwi, avocado, grenadine and pomegranate.  Despite the familiarity of many of these fruits we couldn’t resist as stuff just tastes so much better here.
Along with my S./ 1 delicious loaf of bread the three of us split the pomegranate, both oranges, the plantain, some of the mango, and kiwi before we were about to explode.  In the market we also found a GIANT bars of chocolate with pure sugar inside (S./4), freshly made juice, cheese, dried fruits and nuts.  Definitely will be returning again this week!

¡Kiwi!
Chirimoya (ick)
Chocolate!
Next we walked down Av. El Sol to the Mercado for gifts and warm clothes for Puno.  I got a sweater, earrings, socks and a hat that may or may not be given away.  All I can say now is that I’m wearing the sweater and it is SO COMFY.

After crossing a few gifts off my list we headed back to our local McDonalds hangout but unfortunately couldn’t get the wifi to work so Rachel and I headed home for dinner, mushroom soup, salad and homemade spinach pastry.

Lessons Learned:
  1.  Not sure how I feel about Peruvian hospitals, they look great and have huge rooms but the ‘nurse,’ dressed in jeans, sweater and t-shirt, kept putting her fingers by her mouth and used her bare hands to take off Amy’s old bandage.
  2. My Spanish was doing quite well today while bargaining in the market.
  3. 2 hats for S./14?  Totally possible through the teamwork of Allison & Natalie!
